The House Rake

October 1st, 2008

Many people who begin playing online poker do not know what the house rake means. Quite simply the house rake is the fee the house collects off of each poker game played. While it may seem that this fee is a bummer, it is actually something anyone playing online poker should be happy to pay. The reasons for the rake in online poker are many. First the house has provided not only the site, but their advertising has brought other players to play online poker. Next, most online poker sites have spent a lot of money making sure that they are safe and secure. Finally the online poker site is having to pay in some way just to have the site available for you to play and the house rake is a great way for them to make up the cost without charging everyone and arm and a leg to play poker online.

If you enjoy playing poker online, think about how the experience would change if you had no one to play with. Most people turn to online poker because there is no way to play in their local area and thus the house rake going to advertise means you are getting to play with other people. Also imagine if there was no security guarantee from the online poker site. Almost no one would trust financial information on a site that did not have anyway to protect their online players. Finally think about how hard it would be for you to set up your own online gambling site. Chances are you don’t have the skills, knowledge or time too create an online poker site. For all of these reasons not only does the house rake make sense, but honestly most people should be plenty happy to pay it. Besides most house rakes come off of winnings not directly from your pocket.
